Oregon football set for rematch with Ohio State in the Rose Bowl

The College Football Playoff quarterfinal opponent for the Oregon Ducks has been determined.

The top seed On January 1, Oregon will play No. 8 Ohio State in the Rose Bowl. In a first-round playoff game Saturday night in Columbus, Ohio, the Buckeyes easily defeated No. 9 Tennessee 42-17, advancing them to the quarterfinals.

The Buckeyes’ loss to Michigan in their regular-season finale eliminated Ohio State and replaced them with Penn State, delaying the much-anticipated rematch between Oregon and Ohio State, which was initially scheduled for the Big Ten championship game. In a spectacular offensive display, the Ducks defeated the Nittany Lions 45-37 to win the Big Ten championship.

The Ducks’ unbeaten run through the regular season and Big Ten title game was sparked by Oregon’s 32–31 victory over Ohio State on October 12 at Autzen Stadium. Since their last meeting with the Ducks, the Buckeyes have suffered significant injuries, especially to their offensive line, and head coach Ryan Day has been the target of harsh criticism, which escalated following the team’s defeat by Michigan.
