The National Weather Service issued an updated high surf advisory for Oregon’s Central Coast, Clatsop County Coast, and Tillamook County Coast at 3:41 p.m. on Friday. The advisory is in effect from Saturday at 7 a.m. to Monday at 10 p.m.
“Dangerous surf conditions and big waves. The weather service predicts that breakers up to 25 to 30 feet will occur. “The largest breakers during this period are expected on Monday associated with the arrival of an energetic westerly swell.”
“Unexpectedly, destructive waves might sweep over jetties, beaches, and other infrastructure. While watching heavy surf, people can get washed off rocks and jetties and drown. Buildings and properties along the seaside may sustain minor beach erosion. Beaches and low-lying shoreline are predicted to have more than usual water run-up. The weather service says there is a greater chance of sneaker waves. “When there is a high surf advisory, beaches will be impacted by rip currents, sneaker waves, and beach erosion. Keep a considerable distance from the water’s edge and keep an eye out for particularly large waves. Avoid going near big logs on the beach. Logs can be readily lifted or rolled by water running up on the beach, which might kill or seriously hurt anyone in their path.
