On Monday, former Oregonian George Glass was appointed by President-elect Donald Trump to serve as his ambassador to Japan.
During the first Trump administration, Glass, a Trump fundraiser who founded Pacific Crest Securities, an investment business in Portland, was ambassador to Portugal.
Trump stated on Truth Social that George, a former president of an investment bank, will use his business sense to the Ambassador role.
According to a university brochure, Glass is a graduate of the University of Oregon and a former president of the alumni board. In addition, he was a trustee for the University of Oregon and Oregon Health & Science University foundations.
Given that the incoming Trump administration is anticipated to adopt a harsh posture toward China, the ambassadorship to Japan is anticipated to be crucial.
According to Bloomberg, Trump stated during a news conference on Monday that he had previously served as an ambassador and had done an excellent job. Japan is very important to us.
Japan is still one of Oregon’s most important trading partners.
GlobalEdge ranks it as the fourth-largest foreign trading partner of the state.
The International Trade Administration lists wood products, industrial machinery, and grains as major exports to Japan. Automobiles, industrial equipment, and auto parts are important imports.
According to a State Department biography, Glass founded MGG Development, which buys and manages apartments and rental properties, after Pacific Crest Securities was sold in 2014.
A call to a Glass-related phone number was not immediately answered.
Many thanks, Bill In response to a congrats message from Trump’s former ambassador to Japan, Sen. Bill Hagerty, R-Tenn., Glass posted on X on Monday. After your triumph in Japan, you have big shoes to fill.
Campaign finance records indicate that Glass now resides in Utah. They also reveal that this year, $9,900 was contributed to the Trump campaign committee, $123,900 to the Republican National Committee, and $260,000 to a joint fundraising committee that backed Trump and other Republican candidates nationwide.
