Josie Cavazos was 15 years old when her mother passed away from ovarian cancer.
Nearly five years later, this 62-year-old woman wishes she could have asked her mother during her childhood or c mo lleg a servier for twenty minutes at Home Cafe, which later changed its name to Andy’s Home Cafe in 1977.

“I didn’t realize that I was so young that I had a very nice ventana to listen to these stories and talk to my family about their history and their families,” said a recent Marte.
Josie and her 44-year-old daughter Christina were among the people who met at the Leonel J. Castillo Community Center at the beginning of this month to learn genealogy and to look into their family history. The two-hour session is specifically designed for Hispanic and Latina families that occasionally struggle with the time of rastrear to their antepasados.
Carlos Cant, an adjunct history professor at the University of Houston and the founder of the Collective of Educators Progresistas (COPE), which hosts the seminar, stated that Latin and Hispanic heritage has not been inventoried or cataloged to the extent that it has been European heritage.

According to their Facebook page, COPE’s mission is to uncover, preserve, and promote underrepresented histories, establish partnerships with defense groups, non-profit organizations, higher education institutions, and resource centers, and provide safe learning environments for all communities.

Cavazos dijo que su madre creci en Dewalt, Texas, se cas joven y trabaj como camarera en Andy s, el restaurante de Houston de toda la vida. Aparte de eso, no sabe mucho m s sobre Guadalupe Castillo Waterhouse o c mo vivi su vida.
Cavazos espera que al aprender m s sobre su madre, sabr m s sobre ese lado de la familia y lo que los trajo a Texas.
Tengo peque os retazos, pero nunca me he sentado con nadie de mi familia para conocer la historia completa .
