Miami Native Overcomes Challenges to Realize Dream with Cuban Sandwich Food Truck

Jose Mitjans, a Miami native, has transformed his passion for Cuban sandwiches into a thriving food truck venture known as Medianochies, as reported by Miami New Times. Mitjans’ journey began in 2019 when he started selling traditional Cuban sandwiches from a handmade trailer he named Miami Micro Kitchen. Despite facing challenges, including the disruption caused by COVID-19, Mitjans’ sandwiches quickly gained acclaim among locals and at Miami breweries.

“We were selling authentic Cuban sandwiches using old-school recipes and adding a touch of flair from my industry experience,” Mitjans proudly recalls. “The community response was overwhelmingly positive, with many saying it was the best Cuban sandwich they’d ever tasted.”

Mitjans temporarily closed his trailer due to the pandemic but later teamed up with Rande Samuel to launch Medianochies, a food truck specializing in bite-sized Cuban sandwiches with customizable sauces. The concept has been a hit, attracting customers with its unique offerings at locations like Grand Central Food Station.

“Our goal with Medianochies is to offer a culinary adventure that combines traditional flavors with a modern twist,” Mitjans explains. “We’ve created a themed experience around space and exploration, aiming to take our customers on a journey through taste.”

Both Mitjans and Samuel bring extensive experience in the restaurant industry to Medianochies, having worked across various roles from kitchen operations to management. Their vision extends beyond Miami, with plans to expand Medianochies into a franchise, empowering local entrepreneurs while sharing their passion for Cuban cuisine nationwide.

“Our ultimate aspiration is to grow Medianochies into a successful franchise that not only celebrates our Cuban heritage but also supports our community,” Mitjans reflects. “Starting from humble beginnings, this venture is a testament to perseverance and the power of culinary innovation.”
