In a standout game, Ian Happ powered the Chicago Cubs to a decisive 10-2 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies with two three-run home runs from both sides of the plate, marking a career-high six RBIs. The Cubs, facing a tough season, delighted their home crowd at Wrigley Field with this commanding win on July Fourth.
Happ’s contributions were pivotal, starting with a right-handed home run against Phillies’ starter Cristopher Sánchez in a five-run fourth inning. He followed up in the fifth inning, batting left-handed against Seranthony Domínguez, extending the lead to 8-2 with his second homer of the game and his 14th career multi-homer game. Happ also added a single and a double to his impressive 4-for-4 performance.
Reflecting on his recent form, Happ acknowledged a challenging start to the season but has since rebounded strongly, ranking second in the majors with 36 RBIs over his last 35 games since May 26. Pitcher Jameson Taillon contributed significantly as well, pitching seven innings and allowing only two runs while striking out seven.
