The Newport News native and former Virginia Tech standout told The Virginian-Pilot that he had officially interviewed for the head coaching position at Norfolk State. Vick said that Norfolk State was the first to get in touch, and talks with Melody Webb, the athletic director, and Javaune Adams-Gaston, the university president, have advanced. In order to improve the Spartans program, he intends to assemble a group of seasoned coaching veterans and anticipates a definitive selection shortly.
Although Vick has experience in leadership, this would be his first opportunity to coach at the university level. Vick went on to have a legendary NFL career after transforming the quarterback position at Virginia Tech, where he won the 1999 Big East Rookie and Offensive Player of the Year awards. As a Fox Sports commentator who provides NFL commentary on pregame broadcasts, he has refined his football acumen in recent years.
Vick’s connections to Virginia and the chance to create history at Norfolk State may make them an irresistible combination, even if Sacramento State is also allegedly in the running.
