Former Albany high school teacher accused of sex abuse of student

Police said they had learned of what they described as an inappropriate sexual interaction with a student, leading to the arrest of a 28-year-old former South Albany High School math teacher and wrestling coach on Friday on sex abuse charges.

Keey Duece According to a news release from Albany police, Loi Phaly, who taught math and served as a coach at the high school from 2018 to 2022, had a romantic relationship with the student during his last year of employment. The student’s age at the time was not disclosed by the police.

According to the news statement, Phaly was taken into custody by police just a few days after someone informed a school resource officer about the alleged assault on Wednesday. According to court documents, he is accused of 12 counts of second-degree sex abuse for alleged crimes that took place between 2022 and 2024.
