The Oregon Ducks, who have gone undefeated in their first nine games, were named the top college football team in the initial College Football Playoff rankings on Tuesday.
As the postseason draws closer, we examine all of the Ducks’ odds in greater detail with three games left on the regular-season schedule.
In order to reach the field, can the software complete the remaining tasks on its schedule? Will it survive the first 12-team playoff and build on the outstanding campaign? We’ll find out eventually, but if you want to place a bet, now is the time to make your choice.
Oregon to make the CFB playoffs odds
The odds at FanDuel Sportsbook are -4000.
Given that they would need to drop at least two more games, it is difficult to imagine a scenario in which the Ducks finish outside of the top 12. They might not be able to leave the bracket even with that.
With a 9-0 record and victories over playoff contenders like Ohio State and Boise State, the Ducks are quite the sum. The way head coach Dan Lanning and his team have handled business and performed at a high level has been excellent.
One of the best college football players is still quarterback Dillon Gabriel, who has +325 odds to win the Heisman Trophy at DraftKings. The other members of the supporting cast are performing admirably. The Ducks have also performed well defensively, giving up the tenth-fewest points per contest.
The odds for markets like Oregon to end the regular season unbeaten are -440. At FanDuel, the Ducks are also +100 to win the Big Ten conference championship game.
Oregon Ducks national championship game winner odds
The odds at BetMGM Sportsbook are +450.
It’s unexpected to see the Ducks, the top-ranked college football team, positioned between second and third on the championship odds board. BetMGM has odds of +350 for Ohio State and +400 for Georgia, while Oregon is at +450. Even worse odds for both programs can be found at other books.
The lack of respect from oddsmakers is perplexing, especially given that Oregon defeated Ohio State in a head-to-head earlier this season and the Buckeyes are still figuring out their offense without left tackle Josh Simmons.
These odds are still quite good even if you’re worried about Oregon winning in the crowded field. The Ducks will have a chance to finish third in the Big Ten championship game after previously defeating two teams that are predicted to be in the playoffs.
Although Gabriel’s and this team’s playmakers’ skills have already been acknowledged, Oregon’s trenches are equally impressive. Leaders like Josh Conerly Jr. and Ajani Cornelius contribute to the pocket’s cleanliness offensively.
On defense, players like Matayo Uiagalelei, Jordan Burch, and Derrick Harmon constantly find a way into the backfield to stop the ball.
Lanning has consistently shown himself to be one of the best college football coaches, and Will Stein’s offense has been quite effective. Is it possible that Eugene may get some hardware this season?
