The deal’s financial details were not disclosed, but according to The Athletic, Belichick will receive a salary of about $10 million a year for three years—a sum that very few college coaches receive.
Mack Brown, who was fired after six seasons in his second Chapel Hill head coaching tenure, is replaced by 72-year-old Belichick. Brown concluded his second time at the school with a 44-33 record, and the Tar Heels ended 6-6 in 2024.
