Thursday brings cold showers, gusty winds to Portland; high 43

Over the next three days, Portland will be impacted by a variety of weather systems, including low pressure and cold and warm fronts.

The trough that delivered rain overnight will swiftly move out of the metro area on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service, leaving behind cold showers, mostly until noon.

The metro area’s eastern regions may experience some blustery winds with gusts of up to 30 mph, while Portland has an 80% chance of rain. The temperature will rise to almost 43 degrees.

With a potential of freezing rain or a wintery mix in the upper Hood River Valley and the foothills of the south Washington Cascades, those same winds will keep the Columbia River Gorge close to freezing on Thursday. When driving in the area, exercise caution.

Friday appears to be a very rainy day. The meteorological service predicts almost an inch of precipitation for the 24-hour period ending Saturday morning, with rain expected to be consistent for the majority of the day. 1.75 inches may fall on the seashore.

The high temperature in Portland will rise to roughly 48 degrees.

The outlook for Saturday calls for showers into the afternoon after rain through around 1 p.m. About 51 degrees will be the high temperature.

With a few early showers and some clearing as a weak, temporary ridge tries to form over the area, Sunday might be a rather dry day. By the afternoon, the sky can be partially sunny. About 48 degrees should be the high temperature.

Extended forecasts are showing rain returning Sunday night and lingering into Monday. Models disagree about what might happen next. Rain or drier days by Tuesday and Wednesday are still equally likely.
