Following a sexual assault accusation last week, deputies arrested a 13-year-old pupil, according to the Clatsop County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office said in a statement that the student, who has not been named officially, was being held at Jewell School in Seaside. On Thursday, Dec. 5, deputies were called by school personnel and arrived at the school.
Cory Pederson, interim superintendent of the Jewell School District, told The Oregonian/OregonLive via email that “the safety and well-being of our students is our top priority.” Please be assured that we are handling the situation in accordance with our district’s regulations, even though we are unable to provide particular facts about this incident due to privacy considerations.
The week following the tragedy, classes resumed on Wednesday after being closed on Monday and Tuesday.
According to the sheriff’s office, the investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is encouraged to call Det. Ryan Humphrey at 503-325-8635.
