Man drowns in Clackamas River after alleged theft and assault of Gladstone hotel employee, police say

According to authorities, a man who was being sought in connection with the alleged attack of a Gladstone hotel employee drowned in the Clackamas River early on Tuesday morning.

The man, who has not been officially identified, attempted to steal goods from an office at the Holiday Inn Express in Gladstone, according to police, and when confronted at 2:09 a.m., he attacked a staff member.

The man escaped on foot when police reached the hotel. When the suspect plunged from a 15-foot bluff and into the river, police say they lost sight of him despite their best efforts to pursue him.

Police claimed that after searching the river, search and rescue crews discovered him dead from what appeared to be drowning.

Police are still looking into it.
