Interstate 5 was closed Tuesday morning while firefighters extinguished a fire aboard a semi-truck loaded with cashews and almonds, according to Portland Fire & Rescue.
According to Portland Fire spokesperson Rick Graves, the fire broke out on southbound I-5 close to the Capitol Highway exit in Southwest Portland at approximately 2:30 a.m.
To extinguish the flaming objects inside the semi-truck, firefighters had to cut open the trailer.Portland Fire & Rescue provided this.
According to Graves, firefighters used a saw to cut their way into the truck and extinguish the flaming objects inside, and Portland Fire used several engines to transport water to the scene because there were no fire hydrants in the area.
According to Graves, it took nearly three hours to extinguish the fire.
Although there were no reported injuries in the incident, no information about the fire or its cause is now available.
