Portland Tuesday weather: Chilly start with patchy fog, clearing to mostly sunny by afternoon

Foggy conditions have been observed from Eugene north to Cowlitz County, and a sizable portion of the Interstate 5 corridor will awaken to fog early Tuesday.

Up until 10 a.m. on Tuesday, the National Weather Service has issued a dense fog alert. In remote regions, drivers should prepare for visibility of less than a quarter mile and the possibility of freezing fog.

As of 5:30 a.m., there is patchy fog in Portland, and it will continue to form throughout the morning. Before midday, the skies should start to clear, and the afternoon will be primarily bright. The high will rise from the mid-30s in the morning to roughly 47 degrees.

As the first of two fronts moves into the coast on Wednesday, the Portland/Vancouver area will see a change in weather from clear to cloudy.

Wednesday will have a dry start for Portland, but the afternoon will see the development of clouds. After approximately 4 p.m., there is a 30% chance of rain. Nearly 49 degrees will be the high temperature.

The meteorological service says Thursday is when the first front’s main bulk sweeps in. A rainy and chilly day with east/southeast winds of roughly 10 mph is forecast for Portland. There will probably be rain all day. About 48 degrees will be the high.

Rainfall is predicted over the weekend until the next front arrives on Friday. Rain and largely overcast skies are forecast for Portland. The peak will be close to 48.

According to the extended forecast, the weekend is expected to be rainy with highs in the 40s.
