In the Big Ten championship game, the No. 1 Oregon Ducks defeated No. 3 Penn State 45-37, earning another performance bonus for each of the state’s 10 full-time assistant coaches.
After winning the conference title, UO’s ten assistant coaches each received $20,000, while the third-year Ducks coach received $150,000. Furthermore, Lanning’s CFP participation incentive is $200,000, and it can rise to $250,000 or $500,000 if the Ducks advance to the semifinals or national championship game, respectively, as top-ranked Oregon is guaranteed a first-round bye into the College Football Playoff.
In addition to his second one-year contract extension until January 2031, which is worth $8.4 million in salary plus $1 million in deferred pay, Lanning’s season-ending performance bonuses now total $850,000 going into the CFP. This comes after Oregon’s second 10-win regular season in as many years.
Now, each of his assistants has received a bonus of $30,000 for making it to the conference championship and winning it, as well as an additional $30,000 for securing a first-round bye and participating in a CFP quarterfinal. If they win more postseason games, they can all get an extra $95,000.
