Portland man killed in August shooting was father of 6, ‘caring and loving person’

On one sweltering Portland day, Lorenzo Miranda noticed a man walking barefoot on scorching asphalt with a piece of cardboard and purchased shoes for him.

Maxine Miranda, her younger sister, described her brother as such.

She stated last week, as police published new details in their investigation into the three-month-old deadly shooting of 50-year-old Lorenzo Miranda, that he was a compassionate and caring person.

On August 19, he was shot and died on the Southeast Division Street 12000 block. They are looking for a person of interest in the case, according to the police.

Investigators have not provided much information regarding the shooting’s circumstances, however police sought the public for assistance in identifying a man who was seen riding a bike close to the murder scene.

According to 46-year-old Maxine Miranda, the bike in the picture seems to be her brother’s. She claimed that although he owned a car, he frequently rode his bike throughout the city.

According to her, Lorenzo Miranda was discovered dead in a strip mall parking lot near a grocery outlet store. According to The Oregonian/OregonLive, a Burger King employee in the mall reported hearing two or three gunshots at the time.

According to KGW-TV, a bystander’s video purports to show a man brandishing a gun at Lorenzo Miranda, who is seen riding away from him.

Police said they would not comment further.

According to his sister, Lorenzo Miranda had six children, including four stepchildren whom he reared as his own. She said that he was always giving, even when he didn’t have much, and his niece agreed.

According to his 25-year-old niece Wahsana Evans, “I realized how much he actually did think of others at his funeral because so many people came up to us and told us stories, whether that was just a gift or words of encouragement or advice.”

He has one brother and three sisters and grew up in Northeast Portland. According to Maxine Miranda, when her other siblings grew up and moved out, the two grew closer. Lorenzo and she remained with their mother. According to my mom, he was my babysitter because she had to go to work.

When Maxine Miranda was younger, she recalls going everywhere with her elder brother. The two went to the Irvington neighborhood to play basketball.

Lorenzo Miranda developed a love for hunting, fishing, and camping in Malheur County, where the family frequently traveled to see relatives. But one of their favorite places to camp was Oxbow Park, which was close to their house.

He brought things like a TV, a lava lamp, and a mattress for the whole glamping experience, making him the most prepared person on camping outings. According to Maxine Miranda, “it was like you never left your house when you went in his tent.”

At the shooting site, family members have erected a memorial.

According to his sister, Lorenzo Miranda is the third member of his family to be killed in Portland by gun violence. Her 20-year-old brother-in-law, Marcus Moultrie, was murdered in 2002, and her brother’s stepson, Trayontay Jones, was murdered in 2019.

Maxine Miranda placed marigolds at the location earlier this week.

“We need to remind people that there was a homicide there and that we’re still searching for the perpetrator,” she said.
