NBA fines former Trail Blazers’ player $50,000 for profane tirade toward referee

Ime Udoka most likely chose to obtain his money’s worth because he was aware that he would be penalized.

The NBA fined the Houston Rockets coach $50,000 on Thursday for his public criticism of the refereeing during his postgame news conference, his refusal to leave the court promptly after being removed, and his confrontation and use of foul language toward a game official.

When Rockets center Alperen Sengun was not called in the closing seconds of Houston’s 120-111 loss to the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday, Udoka became enraged.

With 1:52 left in the game, Udoka and Sengun were both given technical fouls and sent out.

The former Portland Trail Blazers player, who attended Jefferson High School and Portland State, was still upset over the event and remained enraged following the game.

After the game, Udoka told reporters, “Missed calls, blatant missed calls right in front of you.” He was referring to referee John Goble. Ticky-tack moving screens and other such things are what you’re calling, but you don’t want to call the apparent ones that are directly in front of you. That was it. They don’t want to call it because they believe he was fouled several times during that drive and the layup. I then instructed him to open his eyes and fetch some glasses.
