A car chase by sheriff’s deputies followed a burglary spree by five teens, including two 14-year-olds, that took place in two counties in southwest Washington on Sunday night and early Monday morning, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.
Officials stated the five suspects, all of whom were boys, were arrested and placed in a juvenile detention center. The guys are between the ages of 14 and 17.
Around 11:37 p.m., sheriff’s officers were called to the Shell gas station at 4409 NE 78th Street in Vancouver for the first reported burglary. According to officials, a witness heard glass breaking and observed three or four people in masks hurrying inside.
According to the witness, the robbers seemed to have fled from a dark SUV that was parked. According to authorities, a few minutes later, the Shell station’s alarm company called in alarms for the store.
According to the sheriff’s office, the burglars had left the gas station by the time deputies got there, leaving behind smashed glass and CCTV footage showing four people entering the business.
Alarms were set off at a Vancouver Wayside Market located at 1309 NE 134th Street approximately twenty-two minutes later. According to police, when deputies arrived, they discovered a damaged window and security camera footage of suspects pulling up to the market in a grey Subaru and going inside the store.
Officials reported that the suspects were last seen driving into Clark County on Service Road 14 after complaints of a burglary in Skamania County by someone in a dark grey Subaru arrived hours later.
Near Northeast 192nd Avenue, a Camas police officer saw the SUV and attempted to pull it over, but the driver ran away.
According to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, five individuals leaped out and fled after the car stopped in a residential area close to Northeast 90th Street and 152nd Avenue after police chased it north through Vancouver and temporarily lost sight of it on Service Road 503.
While deputies apprehended one suspect and pursued him on foot, the others fled inside a neighboring house, so deputies erected a perimeter around the property, according to officials.
After speaking with an adult woman inside the house, deputies were able to apprehend the perpetrators.
The amount and nature of the suspected burglaries were not disclosed by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office. Detectives are looking into the potential that the individuals are linked to other crimes in Clark County, according to the sheriff’s office.
