Five persons were taken into custody by police on Tuesday night during a political demonstration in downtown Portland on suspicion of vandalism and associated offenses, according to officials.
The day following Donald Trump’s inauguration as president, at approximately 6:50 p.m., a sizable contingent started a march at Tom McCall Waterfront Park, dubbed “The People’s Inauguration Day.” According to the Portland Police Bureau, officers observing the march quickly noticed several individuals writing graffiti on buildings and other locations.
According to police-released evidence images, suspects arrived with bags stocked with bandages, bear spray, spray paint, and permanent markers. Messages like “No Trump/No KKK/No Fascist USA” and what appeared to be a literature titled “Life Without Law: An Introduction to Anarchist Politics” were also discovered on the suspects.
Julia Jacobson, age 22, and Andrew Bolen, age 29, were taken into custody by Portland police. According to the police, they were charged with criminal mischief, attempted harassment, and graffiti.
Three more people were taken into custody and charged by the Oregon State Police: 31-year-old Harmony Adcox, 21-year-old William Leahy, and 19-year-old Allstair Sidener. They are charged with everything from disorderly conduct and resisting arrest to criminal mischief.
During the march, no injuries were reported by the police.
