According to court documents, a second guy has been taken into custody in connection with the shooting at the Clackamas Town Center mall on December 20.
Around 3 p.m. that day, two guys, including Gresham resident Carlos Raul Herrera-Medrano, 20, followed a 15-year-old kid and another individual around the mall. According to authorities, the victims attempted to flee and hurried to their car in the parking lot.
According to court documents, Herrera-Medrano and Pedro Anthony Cornejo-Morales, both 18 years old, approached the car from either side. Cornejo-Morales then allegedly opened the passenger-side door and fired inside, hitting the 15-year-old boy’s hand. The boy returned fire.
Shortly after the incident, Cornejo-Morales was located and taken into custody by the police. He faces two counts of unauthorized use of a firearm, second-degree assault, and attempted second-degree murder.
Shortly after the incident, Cornejo-Morales was located and taken into custody by deputies and the US Marshals Service.
According to court documents and a statement from the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, Herrera-Medrano was arrested in Gresham on Tuesday. It was said that he was carrying a revolver and stood by the driver’s-side door of the stopped car as Cornejo-Morales fired at the youngster.
According to the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, a gun linked to the event was discovered when they executed a search warrant at a Gresham residence.
Records show that prosecutors do not claim he fired his weapon. He was indicted by a jury on charges of second-degree assault with a firearm and second-degree attempted murder.
No potential motivation for the shooting is mentioned in court filings.
