A column of black smoke rose into the sky Wednesday afternoon after a residence in unincorporated Washington County caught fire.
According to a statement from Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue, firefighters arrived to the scene at approximately 5 p.m. after several residents of the Bethany-area community reported seeing flames and heavy black smoke coming from a residence in the 3600 block of Northwest 163rd Terrace.
According to an email from the fire department’s spokesperson, Jacob Fuhrer, the smoke column could be seen from U.S. 26.
While the house was still on fire, a team searched it but found no one inside. According to fire officials, the search was particularly difficult because there were so many personal possessions inside the house.
According to officials, in order to bring in additional resources, including firefighters from Hillsboro Fire & Rescue, the incident commander on the scene had to sound a second alarm.
Shortly after 6 p.m., firefighters were able to extinguish the fire with the extra assistance, according to an email from Tualatin Fire spokesperson Jacob Fuhrer. According to officials, no one was hurt in the fire.
Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire.
